Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal data — in plain English, under UK GDPR.
The short version. To join the waitlist we only need your email. When the app launches, scanning a paper means processing the image of that paper to mark it. We don't sell your data, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing hello@getpeta.co.uk.
01Who we are
Peta AI ("Peta", "we", "us") operates the website getpeta.co.uk and the forthcoming Peta AI iOS app. For the purposes of UK data protection law — the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 — Peta AI is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
Questions or requests about your data? Email hello@getpeta.co.uk.
02What we collect
Waitlist & contact. When you join the waitlist we collect your email address, the part of the site you signed up from, and how long you spent on the page before signing up. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your name, email and message.
Scanned papers (once the app launches). To mark your work we process the images of the past papers you scan and the answers written on them, together with the marks and feedback we generate.
Account & billing (once the app launches). If you create an account or subscribe, we (and Apple) process the details needed to run your account and take payment. Payments are handled by Apple through the App Store — we do not receive or store your full card details.
Technical & usage data. Basic device, log and analytics data such as app version, device type and interactions, used to keep the service working and improve it.
03How we use it
- To add you to the waitlist and send you a single launch email (plus any updates you opt into).
- To scan, identify and mark your papers, and return your marks, annotations and revision suggestions.
- To provide, maintain, secure and improve the app and website.
- To respond to your messages and support requests.
- To take payment and manage subscriptions.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your scanned papers to identify you to third parties.
04Our lawful bases
We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR:
- Consent — for joining the waitlist and receiving launch/marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Contract — to provide the app and its marking features once you start using it.
- Legitimate interests — to secure, debug and improve our service, where this is not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must keep records (for example, for tax).
06How long we keep it
We keep personal data only as long as we need it. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them, or until they are no longer needed for the launch. Account and marking data is kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards; billing records are kept as long as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your data sooner (see your rights below).
07Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used (this policy);
- access a copy of your data;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased ("right to be forgotten");
- restrict or object to processing;
- data portability; and
- withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, email hello@getpeta.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK's regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), though we'd appreciate the chance to help first.
08Children & young people
Peta is built for GCSE and A-level students, many of whom are under 18. We take that seriously.
You must be at least 13 to use Peta. If you are under 16, you need a parent or guardian's permission to join the waitlist or use the app, and we rely on that consent where required. We only collect the minimum data needed, and we do not knowingly build marketing profiles of children. A parent or guardian can contact us at any time to review, correct or delete a child's data.
09Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — such as encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and will notify you and the ICO of a breach where the law requires.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Peta develops. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll take reasonable steps to let you know.
